The biggest Rueda in Slovenia

August 22, 2008 § 2 Comments

In this Olympic era, winning 5 some-unexpected medals, the dancing has been served as well. It was done in a true team spirit, with goals and records to brake.  We broke national Rueda record!! Yeeey! 😉  🙂
Rueda de Casino is an entertaining way of salsa group dancing. It is danced in a circle and characterized by constant changing of partners and extreme fun. Yesterday night Slovenian salseros joined together and danced the biggest Rueda ever danced in Slovenia. It was official and all… 122 registered people, meaning 61 couples, wearing colored ribbons, were rehearsing for a few weeks, synchronizing their Rueda knowledge and did it yesterday night at 23.30. The floor got too small of course, since innocent bystanders got really curious of what people are doing in the middle of Ljubljana and wanted to come closer 🙂 Here’s the first raw footage from yesterdays record braking 🙂

The Rueda was danced on regular Thursday night party, which is organized by BU-BA, sports and recreation center and Salsoteca, the first salsa dance school in Slovenia.

Salsafest 2008 – part 1

April 13, 2008 § Leave a comment

After a busy and crapyweathered week there’s no better thing than to chill and ventilate on salsa parties. Luckily this is the weekend when Salsoteca organizes its 3rd Slovenian salsa festival, so we have plenty of chances to do that 🙂 I’ve already attended two parties and still have some energy left for today 😉 Friday night was not as busy, so everybody had a great chance to experience dancing with all guest instructors and had enough room to dance (that is a very welcome festival quality nowadays). But yesterday the place got packed. I think there were quite a lot foreign salseros present as well. We saw some great shows – my favorite were Nelson Flores&Veronica Castilla (the smoothest routine of all), I really liked Fridaynight performance from Ramon Morales y su Nuevo Imperio, plus I cannot pass by Donia’s performance – she performed with Sam Gannon and they gave this comic salsa routine… I just love it when dancing becomes acting!  🙂
Unfortunately my camera is not among my top friends or employees at the moment and refuses to work for me. That’s why I will have to wait for some generous soul to equip this article with sufficient photo and video material. Thanks in advance! 🙂
Read you soon, with part 2 review – they say we’ll have a live band on tonight’s party. Let’s see how that works on Sunday night… 🙂

Laguna revived&rewined

December 16, 2007 § Leave a comment

Well,…. we were all a bit disappointed. We knew we shouldn’t expect the old Laguna, but silently, we were all hoping for it. It wouldn’t be so far away if only the floor were all right. But it was kinda embarrassing to tell your dance partner each time: “no triple spins, please”. And they all went: “Yes, yes, I know. I’ll try double spin, since it’s a slow song.” I can only congratulate all the performers for getting through the show, I imagine it must have been a bit hard. I remembered thinking “Respect!”, when Duende coupled finished off their performance with those multiple spins. I really really enjoyed the oriental dancer… I know I’m not a guy, but I enjoy sexy female movimiento when I see one. 🙂 And Taisha (hope I got the name right) was definitely good! Krista had a few fun animations, but we were soooo disappointed the reggaeton battle was canceled. Hope people will be more courageous next time. 🙂 I think Salsoteca announced this might again become a regular salsa venue in 2008. Despite all, this sure is a nice change from those other regular salsa spots.

Crazy and cool reggaeton performances.

Christmas salsa party

December 10, 2007 § 3 Comments

In case you haven’t checked your calendar lately, let me remind you, we’ve already come deep into December. Christmas celebrations are everywhere and everyday, cities are all light-up, stores are full of small and expensive gifts, … And we should slowly start thinking about, what we are going to do and where we’re gonna spend our Christmas and New Year’s eve.
Luckily, salseros need not worry, cause there will be a lot of salsa fiestas in Slovenia. 🙂 This Saturday the famous salsa parties in Laguna will be revived (organized by Salsoteca) and on 26th of December we’ll all have the opportunity to dance in the most beautiful Slovenian dance hall – Festivalna dvorana. Sports and recreation center Bu-Ba announces a big Christmas party.
What do we need to know about this party?
– it will present domestic and guest DJs (DJ Principe from Italy and DJ Panchito from Peru/Slovenia)
– it will give rich show program, with possible guest performances from abroad
– it has a DRESS CODE: dress to impress!! 🙂
Entrance fee: 9€ (12€ at the door)

Don’t hesitate just because you’re not from Ljubljana! This are big parties we’re talking about! 🙂 🙂
