A brilliant documentary on Flamenco

February 8, 2010 § 1 Comment

Flamenco at 5:15 by Cynthia Scott…
One of the most astonishing documentaries I have ever seen. It’s impressive. It’s a must-see. And I think you have to see it more than once to start understanding it, especially if you don’t do flamenco. 🙂
“This Oscar®-winning short film is an impressionistic record of a flamenco dance class given to senior students of the National Ballet School of Canada by two great teachers from Spain, Susana and Antonio Robledo. The film shows the beautiful young North American dancers–inspired by the flamenco rhythms and mesmerized by Susana’s extraordinary energy–joyously merging with an ancient gypsy culture.”

§ One Response to A brilliant documentary on Flamenco

  • Irena Pfundner says:

I find it fascinating how I often start thinking: hey, maybe I do know sth about dance… but then I see sth new and I know I’m still miles away… I love how rhythm is interpreted here, how you can feel it and how hard you have to pay attention to see the beauty of it. One might easily just say this is boring or stupid, but the true beauty is well hidden… for those who really want it I guess. I don’t know, I think I’ll see it again and then come on the level of basic understanding. But it made me wanna try it 🙂 I feel like Socrates right now… “I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance”… but that’s a good start they say… better than thinking you have eaten all wisdom of this world, when basically you are just satisfied with the basic popular knowledge…
